EXPERTS EXPLAIN HOW TO AVOID A SPRING BREAKDOWN

As the weather begins to warm up, automakers say drivers should check their vehicles before checking the route of their next vacation. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration reports more than 2,600 death occur every year in the U.S. due to inadequate vehicle maintenance.

Before heading out on a road trip, safety experts from General Motors say drivers should check their car battery to make sure it is clean. If the battery is more than three years old, drivers should have a load check performed. Other safety tips include making sure ones vehicle tires are properly inflated, including the spare, and ensuring all car fluids are properly topped off.

Finally, safety experts say drivers should take extra precautions by having their car undergo a lube, oil and filter change before long-distance trips.
