IRVINE, Calif., – Thinking about your car's paint is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when dealing with the daunting prospects of a close by wildfire. But the chemcicals in the falling ash that settle on your car can do a lot of damage if they become wet.

“The elements in wood ash include calcium, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium, which are inert and have no effect on finishes in their dry form,” says Meguiar. “There is, however, a serious risk of chemical etching on automotive paint finishes when these elements are mixed with water. Leaving an ash-covered car outside on wet nights or foggy mornings may very well result in chemical etching and, in some cases, serious damage to a vehicle’s painted surfaces.”

by Michael Rose

Irvine, Calif. – For more than 100 years, Meguiar's, the leader in automotive appearance care, has offered car hobbyists the finest products and accessories for show car shine, smoothest glass surface and eye-popping shine. Once again at the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 16, 2009, the majority of the motor cars that were awarded “Best in Class,” as well as the top prize honor of “Best of Show,” achieved their flawless appearances using Meguiar's car care products.

More than 200 of the world’s most flawlessly restored classic cars were subjected to the intense judging that sets the Pebble Beach Concours apart from all other car shows. After the awards ceremony, it was discovered that 24 of the 28 “Best in Class” winners had been detailed inside and out with Meguiar's products. For the last eleven years, 235 out of the 273 vehicles that were judged “Best in Class,” have used Meguiar’s car care products.

“We have helped car guys make their cars perfect at the Concours d’Elegance for the past eleven years,” said Barry Meguiar, president of Meguiar’s. “But we also make our products easy to use for those who simply want to impress their neighbors, family and friends with the sleek coat and shine of their car.”
