For those with a little wanderlust in their hearts and a new C 70 on their horizon why not consider picking your car up in Europe and combining the thrill of a new car with a vacation? Volvo is set to accommodate you with its Overseas Delivery Program and they'll even throw in, "two round trip tickets to Sweden throughout 2007," said Johan Rasmusson, Overseas Delivery Manager.
The program makes it possible for buyers to pick up their cars at the Volvo factory in Sweden or take possession of it in Paris or London or nine other major cities in Europe. From there you can tailor your driving vacation any way you like.
If delivery is taken in Volvo's home city of Göteborg, Sweden, there’s no extra fee and they throw in one night's complimentary lodging at SAS Radisson in Göteborg as well as a factory tour. If you pick up the car in one of the other designated locations in Europe there is a fee of approximately $600 to $800 which covers the cost of shipping it back to the States. This is probably less than you’d pay for a rental car while tooling around the continent.
Now if you can’t stand reading one more Lonely Planet guidebook and are just out of ideas about where you want to take your shiny new C 70, Volvo is ready to jump in and help. They’ve prepared eleven different "Overseas Adventures" including several pre-planned "Discover Scandinavia" driving tours that range in length from three to 11 days over mountain roads, through centuries old-old villages and into a few modern cities. If this is too tame they occassionally offer a "safety/activity driving school at the Nurbrugring in Germany," said Rasmusson. I’m guessing a group of their PR people took many weeks designing these for you (tough duty) and if these jaunts are half as much fun as the trip to Hana you’re in for a treat.
Whether the retractable hardtop convertible is a fad that will pass or not is impossible to say at this point but the C 70 makes a strong case for this two-in-one approach to driving. Let me know if you end up in Sweden dodging a reindeer or two.
