ImageThe world debut of the new BMW 7 Series and the first appearance of the new BMW 3 Series at a motor show are set to lead off the premium car maker’s announcements at the 2008 Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris from October 4–19.

The new BMW 7 Series will bring updated luxury to the luxury saloon segment, while maintaining the unique driving experience these cars offer that’s ideal for those who demand grand touring comfort, and outstanding design with a combination of sporting elegance, modern style and a confident presence.

ImageThe world’s best-selling near luxury car, the BMW 3 Series, is given an attractive exterior makeover. Some modifications of the car’s design, refinements in the interior and additional drive updates should please enough prospective buyers of both the Saloon and the Touring model to insure that the company keeps its comfortable lead over the competition in this class.

Performance and handling is no longer enough.  BMW is stressing in both of these model series, the 3 and the 7 Series, the technology that makes them efficient too. Boasting about “the most advanced, consumption optimized engine technology and a wide range of other features” BMW is clearly striving to provide customers a balance of motoring performance and fuel economy.

ImageThe BMW 7 Series, offers a wide range of technologies such as Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand management of ancillary units including the a/c compressor disconnected when not required, intelligent lightweight technology, active aerodynamics and tires with reduced roll resistance, to not only make it more fuel efficient but to appeal to those who are attracted to “trendsetting technology.”

Claiming average fuel consumption of 7.2 litres/100 kilometers (equal to 36.2 mpg US or 39.2 mpg imp) in the combined cycle, the new BMW 730d powered by a newly developed 180-kW/245 hp straight-six could indeed be a most efficient car.

ImageContrary to the BMW 7 Series boasting six-speed automatic transmission as standard, the BMW 3 Series also comes with the BMW EfficientDynamics gearshift point indicator featured on all models with a six-speed manual gearbox and the Auto Start Stop function on all four-cylinder manual gearbox models.

Reducing average fuel consumption to 4.7 litres/100 kilometers, (equal to 50.04 mpg US or 60.1 mpg imp), and with a CO2 emission rating of 123 grams per kilometer, the 105 kW/143 hp BMW claims the 318d is the absolute leader in its segment in terms of both fuel efficiency and emission management.

ImageWith the 2009 model year, BMW offers 23 models that fully comply with the future EU 5 emission standard. In addition, the new BMW 330d is the first model available with optional BluePerformance technology, which already meets the EU 6 emission standard, which is not scheduled to take effect until 2014.

BMW Group will meet its commitment as part of the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA) to reduce its fleet consumption throughout the entire model range by 25 per cent between 1995 and 2008.

Apart from the BMW 7 Series and the BMW 3 Series, the latest examples of such fuel efficiency with performance is the new diesel versions of the BMW 1 Series -- 118d Convertible and the 123d Convertible --- both of which will also be presented at the 2008 Mondial de l’Automobile

In the upper midrange segment, in turn, the BMW 520d offers average fuel consumption of just 5.1 litres/100 kilometres (46.12 mpg US and 55.4 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 136 grams per kilometer, making this by far the most efficient car in its class.   Take that, you Pious Prius drivers.

Who said, you cant’ have it all?
