Auburn, IN - Ernest Hemingway's 1929 Rolls-Royce will be sold at the Kruse International Auburn Call Collector Car Auction August 30 - September 4, 2007 in Auburn, Indiana. The car has been in storage for the past 20 years, is in
pristine condition, and ready for auction.
Lloyd Gillespie, owner of International Restoration Specialist, Inc. in Mount Airy, North Carolina has located the Rolls-Royce 33WJ, a highly-desirable 1929 Phantom II Short Coupled Saloon Rolls-Royce.
The proceeds of the sale will benefit children charities including the children's cancer program at the Brenner Children's Hospital at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Hemingway toured the United States in this car. During the time, he wrote and published A Farewell to Arms, The Fifth Column and the First Forty-Nine Stories and Death in the Afternoon. To accommodate his needs, the car was equipped with beverage, golf and hunting equipment storage compartments.
Original coachwork was done by Weyman, who was known for their patented
rattle free bodies adaptations of aircraft fuselage constructions. This
car has been on display at events such as the Festival of Speed and the
Pin-Mar.
