ImagePEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 2007) – Gooding & Company will hold a two-night auction event during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.  Highlights of this year’s auctions include the oldest running car in the world, an original 1931 Blower Bentley from the E. Ann Klein Estate, one-of-a-kind Ferraris and the incomparable Rolls-Royce collection of Richard J. Solove that will constitute the largest single automotive donation in history.

As part of this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Gooding & Company’s auction doors will open to the public on Thursday, August 16, from 9 am – 5 pm, revealing the 132-car lot to the public for the first time. Thursday and Friday previews will kick-off the two live auctions over the weekend and there will be a continuous flow of daily public previews through Sunday, August 19.

For the first time in the history of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, there will be evening auctions from 6 – 10 pm on both Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19 for the annual Pebble Beach Auction, which is traditionally held on the last Sunday following the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Gooding & Company auction highlights for Saturday, August 18 include:

Greg Garrison Ferrari Collection – Gooding & Company will kick off the Saturday evening auction with nine cars, seven of which are one-of-a-kind Ferraris, once owned by the late private collector and well-known television producer Greg Garrison, who is best known for his work as the director of the The Dean Martin Show from 1965 to 1974.

ImageHighlights from the Greg Garrison Collection include the 410 Superamerica Scaglietti Coupe, the 250 PF One-Off Coupe and the very last Daytona Spyder built, which Mr. Garrison ordered new and which has less than 80 miles. To be offered without reserve, this is one of the finest collections of coachbuilder Ferraris to be offered for sale and it is expected to set new world records.

Gooding & Company auction highlights for Sunday, August 19 include:

1884 De Dion Bouton et Trépardoux steamer – Recognized as the “oldest running car in the world,” and boasting a top speed of 38 miles per hour, the De Dion Bouton’s twin tandem compound steam engines use coal and water for fuel. On April 28, 1887 it won the world’s first auto race, from Paris to Neuilly and back, covering a distance of 19 miles while averaging 26 miles per hour.

Richard J. Solove Rolls-Royce Collection – In the largest single automotive donation in history, Richard Solove is contributing his proceeds from the collection’s sale, with catalog estimates ranging between $8 - $10 million, to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at Ohio State University, one of only ten freestanding cancer hospitals in the United States and part of Ohio State’s National Cancer Institute- designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Mr. Solove has assembled the only known collection of Rolls-Royce’s first series 40/50hp Silver Ghost, with models from every year of the series' production, which ran from 1907 through 1915. Highlights of the Solove Collection include a 1907 Rolls-Royce (chassis 60547), which is the oldest-known surviving 40/50hp model predating the example owned by Rolls-Royce and a vehicle known as “Corgi,” Solove’s 1912 Silver Ghost, which was so nicknamed because it inspired the creation of the famous tiny “Corgi Classics” model. The Richard J. Solove Rolls-Royce Collection will be offered without reserve.

Image1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder – This previous multi-class winner at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was the very last California outfitted with the iconic three liter Colombo V-12 engine and retains all documented ownership history dating back to when it was first delivered to famed Ferrari distributor Luigi Chinetti in 1959. Gooding & Company expects this car’s auction price to range between $3.2 - $4 million.

E. Ann Klein Estate – A true pioneer among female car collectors, Pennsylvania born Ann Klein (1931-2007) developed a passion for automobiles at a young age, which eventually turned into the full-time hobby of collecting classic cars with her husband throughout their lifetime together. With a special emphasis on Rolls-Royces and Bentleys, the Klein’s collection numbered nearly 50 cars at one point. Gooding & Company will be offering the remaining E. Ann Klein estate, which includes a 1931 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Blower with original boat tail coachwork by Gurney Nutting.
