Auburn Hills, Mich. -- Fall is coming and it’s time to think about leisurely scenic cruises minus the summer heat.
Auto enthusiasts can soak up one of Michigan’s greatest natural resources as the fifth annual Acorn Tour explores autumn along the Lake Huron coastline Sunday, Oct. 7 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sponsored by the Walter P. Chrysler Museum, the driving event is open to auto enthusiasts with vehicles of any make built before 1958. The day begins at the Museum, in Auburn Hills, and winds through Michigan’s eastern environs to find majestic views of Lake St. Clair with stops at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, in Grosse Pointe Shores and Jack’s Waterfront Restaurant, in St. Clair Shores. The journey ends at Papa Joe’s Gourmetrion, in Rochester Hills.
The 2007 Acorn Tour kicks off at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum with continental breakfast and informal tours of more than 65 vehicles from the 1920s through today, highlighting Chrysler’s contributions to automotive design, technology and innovation, as well as the automobile’s impact on American culture.
Following a leisurely drive along paved roadways, the Acorn Tour makes a mid-morning stop at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House for a private tour of the family’s finely crafted lakeside home, filled with original art and elegant furnishings. Guests will also take in the grounds, including the gardens, pool and play houses, as well as the Gate Lodge Garage housing the Fords’ personal cars.
The tour will then proceed to Jack’s Waterfront Restaurant for a delightful brunch overlooking the Emerald City Harbor Marina and Lake St. Clair.
The Acorn Tour will move on to Papa Joe’s Gourmetrion for a guided tour of this foodie’s paradise capped by coffee and desserts in the adjacent La Sala banquet center.
Convenient parking will be available at all Acorn Tour stops and a suggested route of paved roads between destinations will be provided. Guests are welcome to travel in a caravan or solo.
