Los Angeles, CA – The new Ferrari California finally made it to the State that gave it a name and whose first dealer originally suggested that Enzo Ferrari build a special car for Californians.
The new model from the stable of the Prancing Horse harkens back to that 250 GT California from 1957 but its powerful, front mounted V8 and Pininfarina styling gives it a thoroughly modern sensibility that is certain to please Ferrari aficionados in one of the most important markets for the company – California.
These enthusiasts account for almost 30% of Ferrari’s North American sales that are responsible for 30% of the company’s worldwide sales. Keeping this passionate group happy requires more than new models. It also means that the company has to create “high touch” experiences for its buyers through programs that recognize the cars’ heritage, organize track activities, provide performance driving academies, road rallies and ways for them to interact through the owner’s clubs.
Of course, none of this would matter if the cars didn’t deliver, sportiness, performance, exclusivity and craftmanship all wrapped in air of sophistication.
The Ferrari California offers all of that and comes with something new – the first mid-front mounted V8 in a Ferrari road car. This engine delivers 460 hp which can propel the car from 0-100 kph (62 mph) in less than 4 seconds. And it claims a pulse racing top speed of 310 km/h (192 mph).
Fuel economy may not be the number one concern of a typical Ferrari buyer but the Ferrari California burns 13.1 liters/100km (17.96 mpg). Not bad for a super car and better than a Bugatti but this wasn’t designed to win the Green Car of the year award.
This is a car for someone who wants to hit the road, lower the retractable hard top, turn up the Bose Premium sounds system and watch the scenery fly by as they channel their inner Schumacher with the steering wheel mounted, Formula One style shifting paddles while piloting one of the world’s most exceptional autos.
