Ford FX Atmos
The Mystere’s cosmic design wasn’t the only rocket like auto to fly out of the Ford styling studios.

One year earlier, it looked like Ford’s stylists had reached the extraterrestrial limits with the FX Atmos.  This was a pure concept car that didn’t even come with an engine.  It was meant to spark the imagination.   Its needle like projectiles coming out of the headlight openings could spark a reaction if it ever rolled out.  These were explained away as being part of a proposed radio navigation system.

There was also a TV monitor/radar screen in the cockpit that could be used to watch for other cars or catching the latest episode of Captain Video and His Video Rangers.

While the FX Atmos never hit the road there was no stopping the hold that science fiction, rocketry and jet travel had on stylists.
