Classic car buffs pride themselves on the arcane rides in their
collections. There’s nothing better than tooling around in some
antique auto that wows the crowd when they see history in motion. But
what would the neighbors say if you rolled down the driveway in a 4,000
year-old vehicle?
You can start to make that dream come true if you make it to Bonahms’
London auction when they put a pair of chariot wheels on the block that
last rolled around the Elamite landscape in what is now Iran some 4,000
years ago.
If you’re the lucky bidder you can start to build your own chariot and see what the enemies of the Babylonians, felt like when they inflicted memorable defeats on this formidable foe.
The hollow circular chariot tire rims with flanges for clamping the inner wooden hub, 35½in (92cm) in diameter, are expected to make £7,000-9,000 at Bonhams next Antiquities Sale at 11 AM on October 15 to be held at 101 NEW BOND ST LONDON
If that doesn’t get your motor running you can bid on an ancient Egyptian vase or
Roman throne. Wouldn’t that throne beat a folding chair at the next car show?
