MALVERN LINK, UK -- The Morgan Motor Company, the world’s oldest family car company, today welcomes a visit by John Hutton, the Secretary of State for Business and Enterprise, to show him the famous Morgan sports car and introduce him to the 155 skilled craftspeople who build it.
The company works with world leaders in the fields of powertrains and electronics, such as BMW and Siemens, and has just announced its intention to develop a low carbon sports car in collaboration with some of the top British universities.
Assembled from recyclable aluminium, ash hardwood, high tensile steel and leather, the Morgan sports car has low carbon credentials and the company intends to add to these using the latest technologies as they become available in the marketplace.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit Morgan and meet the people responsible for producing these iconic cars.
“Morgan is a great example of British business. As a family-run business with 100 years of experience, it combines traditional manufacturing with modern, innovative design and technology, evident in the new Lifecar.
“I am impressed by the way Morgan is developing its vehicles to increase the sustainability of its models, from the use of stop-start technology and low resistance tyres to new fuel sources which help cut carbon emissions.”

The experimental LIFECar project illustrates that Morgan is keen to develop a future direction that offers enhanced sustainability. The LIFECar project was part funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB). It uses a Qinetiq fuel cell that gives zero emissions at point of use, with a range of 250 miles. It will do 0-60 in under 7 seconds with a potential top speed of 80-85 mph.
