Pebble Beach, Calif. – Colorful and engaging works by members of the Automotive Fine Arts Society (AFAS) will be exhibited next to world class vintage automobiles at the famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 19, 2007. Sponsored by the Lincoln Division of Ford Motor Company, the amazing art show on the 18th fairway of the Lodge at Pebble Beach will include automotive subjects in a variety of mediums including watercolors, acrylics, oils, wood and various metals. AFAS members create works for art connoisseurs and auto enthusiasts throughout the world.
It’s an honor to be among the select few invited to be a part of the field at the Pebble Beach Concours,” AFAS President, Ken Eberts said. “Only the finest, most refined examples of automotive history, both on the green and in the art show, are included in this wonderful event. That is why AFAS members work so hard to create masterpieces worthy of being part of the Pebble Beach Concours.”
Artists scheduled to exhibit their work this year include: Larry Braun, Dennis Brown, James Dietz, Ken Eberts, Art Fitzpatrick, Tom Fritz, Tom Hale, Jack Juratovic, Jay Koka, Charles Maher, John Francis Marsh, William Motta, Niles Nakaoka, Bill Neale, Richard Pietruska, Stanley Rose, Barry Rowe, Toni Sikorski and Nicola Wood.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting the 22nd annual AFAS exhibition,” noted Sandra Kasky Button, Chairman, Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. “From the beginning, the artists of the AFAS have made an important contribution to this Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and to the automotive world as a whole. Their creations underscore the art of the automobile. Until the automobile was taken seriously as the subject of fine art, many people had difficulty seeing the automobile itself as art. The AFAS helped change this and broaden our vision of both the automobile and art.”
Featured marques at the 57th Annual Pebble Beach Concours will include Aston Martin and Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the ‘32 Ford will be honored as a special class along with The 10+ Club (10+ liter engines) and postwar preservation cars. Barry Rowe was commissioned to create the official Concours art and Dennis Brown was asked to design the Tour d’Elegance poster this year.
“Over the past two decades, AFAS has been an integral part of the most celebrated tribute to the beauty of the automobile,” added AFAS artist and board member Bill Neale. “People are drawn to the sights, sounds and drama of this wonderful event. As artists and enthusiasts, our exhibit at Pebble Beach Concours has become the single most important show for AFAS members each year.”
Original artwork and limited edition prints will be available at the Concours, as well as signed copies of the AFAS book, “AFAS: a Celebration of Automotive Art,” that was debuted at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2005. It records the history, artists and pieces created by AFAS members.
The Lincoln Division of the Ford Motor Company, which has sponsored the Pebble Beach AFAS exhibit since 1996, will do so again for the 12th consecutive year. The Lincoln AFAS art gallery will be held at its time-honored location near the 18th hole next to the world’s most exclusive automobiles. The Lincoln-sponsored art exhibition has become popular with celebrities, industry leaders and Concours participants over the past two decades.
The Automotive Fine Arts Society was established in 1983 by a group of artists who are acknowledged by critics to be among the best in their field. Members work in many diverse mediums including oil, watercolors, acrylics, wood, gouache, pen & ink, clay and metal. AFAS participates in select shows across the country including the Pebble Beach Concours d´Elegance and the Amelia Island Concours d´Elegance.
