California Mille discovers northern California
time capsule towns in its 17th running.
This thousand mile, 4-day drive salutes the historic Italian race, the Mille Miglia.
Some 65 historic race cars from five continents and 6 states will depart and most will return. The California tour recalls Italy’s most famous road race, the Mille Miglia (thousand mile) that ran from 1927 to 1957 and is restricted to cars that could have qualified for the original event. Organizer Martin Swig reveals that the route is designed to capture the feel of the Italian race. “In designing our route, we look for colorful towns, little-known passes, interesting back roads and inns reminiscent of those in the Italian country side. Ours is not a race, but a brisk drive through the most memorable parts of northern California,”he added.
